The Internal Revenue Service announced that it would stop automatically mailing out tax forms to taxpayers each year. The move was prompted by the 96 million taxpayers that use the e-file method and the 20 million people who filed through tax preparers, and could result in a savings of 10 million dollars a year for the IRS.
Those who filed a traditional paper return last year will be receiving a postcard from the IRS in the next few weeks with instructions on how to get the necessary documents. In addition to hardcopy forms that are available at post offices, libraries and IRS offices throughout the country, the documents are also available on the IRS website at www.irs.gov.
